DID YOU KNOW !!!

Cancer is the most dangerous, unrecognized threat to the health and safety of our firefighters. It is the #1 cause of all firefighter line-of-duty deaths.

  • Firefighters face a nine percent higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer than the general population, with a fourteen percent higher mortality rate.
  • They suffer statistically higher rates of multiple types of cancer, including Brain, Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Malignant Melanoma, Testicular, Prostate, Multiple Myeloma, Leukemia, Colon, Liver, and Skin Cancers.
  • In 2023, occupational cancer accounted for 72% of line-of-duty deaths among firefighters.
  • Risks are significantly higher for some specific types of cancer than for the general population.
  • More than 80,000 firefighters validate the connection between firefighting and occupational cancer.
